Diagnosis: Jason was diagnosed as an infant with spastic cerebral palsy and right sided hemiplegia. Cerebral palsy influences movement and coordination, as well as having adverse effects on posture and balance. Jason's condition is primarily right sided , however his left side is also affected and as such this results in difficulties with gross and fine motor skills. Distance perception and spatial awareness is also impaired.
Background : In 2010 Jason starting riding recreationally. He already had competitive experience as a goalie in the Special Hockey International (SHI) league as well as pitching in the silver medal game at the 2009 Special Olympics in Windsor, Ontario. His competitive sports background and determination kicked in and Jason found himself competing and placing at local hunter/jumper shows. His attention was eventually redirected to the sport of para dressage. Jason was, and still is, fascinated by the connection between horse and rider in this discipline. He found the precision and execution of dressage to be an incredible thing to experience and observe. After researching para dressage online, Jason came to the realization that competing in this sport was something he wanted to strive towards.
